South Africa Shark Trip

THE TRIP:
This Spring DLL are going diving with sharks! We’re going out to Durban in South Africa to dive at the famous Aliwal Shoal. The diving here offers reefs, some wrecks and drifts but the predominate reason is the wide variety of sharks that can be seen up close. You’ll be able to see Ragged Tooth sharks (known as ‘raggies’), Reef sharks, Bull sharks and hopefully on one awe inspiring dive; Tiger Sharks!
 
There’ll also be the option to bolt on some safari or even great white diving for those who’re interested.

MINIMUM DIVING EXPERIENCE:
You will need to be an advanced diver preferably with a deep diving certification (some dives will be to 35m).
 
ACCOMMODATION:
Our hosts are Scuba Addicts, a well established dive centre with an excellent reputation who specialise in shark diving. We will be staying in their lodge which overlooks the ocean and is minutes walk from the dive centre.
 
DIVING:
All diving is conducted from a RIB which launches in the river before heading out to the shoal. Dive destinations are decided according to the conditions on the day.
 
ITINERARY:

• Day 1: Fly from London to Johannesburg and then internal flight to Durban- Transfer to lodge [20-mins] - Overnight     ScubaAddicts Lodge

• Day-2-5 : 8 x Shark Dives -- Overnight ScubaAddicts Lodge

• Day-6 : Tiger Shark Diving -- Overnight ScubaAddicts Lodge

• Day-7 : Airport transfer to Durban International Airport then home

 
PRICES:

• Flights, international: Approx £600-800

• Internal Flights: Approx £70-80

• Diving and accommodation: R7,750.00 (£575 based on current exchange rate) including:

• 8 guided dives in the Aliwal Shoal and the Tiger shark dive.

• 6 nights’ accommodation on a bed and breakfast basis.

• All transfers to the airport.

4-day 'Great White Cage Diving'
Dyer Island, Gansbaai, South Africa:
Extend your stay and get up close and personal with the oceans apex predator, the Great White Shark at Dyer Island in South Africa.
Experience the Great White Sharks up close and personal as each day you will have a number of opportunities to view the Great White Sharks from the boat as well as from the safe confines of the cage, a truly amazing experience!
Cost: Approx £520 excluding connecting flights to Cape Town.
 
 
4-day 'Big-5 Safari'
Hluhluwe-Imfolozi National Park :
Extend your stay and get up close with Africa's wildlife in the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi National Park, home to Africa's Big-5 including Lion, Leopard, Buffalo, Rhino & Elephant & more.

BOOKING:
To secure your space we need a 20% deposit (approx £115). You’ll also need to book your flights. At the moment the best flights look to be the BA or South African flights that run overnight on the 20th, arriving in the morning of the 21st to Jo’burg. Connecting flights can be bought on a number of cheap airlines and we’ll look at the best as we start to book the trip up.
 
EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:
As well as the basic set up you’ll need the following:
 

• Dive computer.

• SMB and Reel.

• The water temperature will be about 20-22 deg so a 5mm wetsuit possibly with hood and undervest would be advisable depending on how much you feel the cold.

• A camera to take loads of shark photos!
